How to Choose the Right Banner Display for Your Event or Space
Walk into any trade show or exhibition and you'll see a wide range of display formats — roller banners, SEG fabric displays, traditional pop-ups, banner frames, stretch fabric stands and more. Each format has different strengths, different use cases and different price points. Choosing the right one for your specific situation can make a significant difference to both the impact of your display and the value you get from your investment.
In this guide, we compare the most popular banner and display formats available at Dipol Print to help you make the right choice.
Roller Banners
Roller banners are the most widely used display format — and for good reason. They are compact, lightweight, quick to set up and available at a price point that makes them accessible to virtually any budget. The graphic retracts into the base cassette for protected storage and transport, and the whole unit typically weighs between 3–6kg.
Best for: Everyday events, exhibitions, conferences, retail point-of-sale, reception areas and any situation where portability and speed of setup are priorities.
Limitations: Single graphic per unit — to update the message you need a new complete banner. Width is limited to 1500mm maximum even with wide format options.
Options at Dipol Print: Standard, Premium, Wide, Double-sided and Desktop roller banners.
SEG Fabric Pop-Up Displays
SEG fabric pop-up displays use a lightweight aluminium frame with a dye-sublimation printed stretch fabric graphic finished with a silicone edge. The result is a seamless, tensioned fabric backdrop that looks significantly more premium than a standard roller banner. Available in four straight frame sizes from 770mm to 2970mm wide, with options to join multiple units together for larger formations.
Best for: Exhibition stand backdrops, trade show displays, retail feature walls, conference branding and any situation where a large-format, seamless fabric display is needed.
Limitations: More expensive than roller banners. Requires more assembly time — approximately 15 minutes. Some frame visibility possible through fabric under strong backlighting.
Options at Dipol Print: SEG fabric pop-up displays in four sizes, single or double-sided, with optional LED lighting.
Traditional Pop-Up Displays
Traditional pop-up displays use a magnetic panel system — semi-rigid CrystalFlex graphic panels attach to an expanding aluminium frame via pre-fixed magnetic bars. Available in five sizes (1×3 to 5×3) in curved or straight configurations, complete with carry case, wooden tabletop and LED lights.
Best for: Large exhibition stand backdrops where a complete, ready-to-use kit including carry case and lighting is needed. The carry case doubles as a branded counter with the included wooden tabletop.
Limitations: Bulkier and heavier than fabric alternatives. The carry case with wheels is the transport solution — not easily carried by hand for long distances.
Options at Dipol Print: Traditional pop-up displays in five sizes, curved or straight, and Traditional pop-up (Lite) without carry case or lighting.
SEG Fabric Free-Standing Displays
SEG fabric free-standing displays are lightweight aluminium frames with dye-sublimation fabric graphics in multiple widths. Unlike pop-up displays, they are designed as individual panels that can be used standalone or combined to create larger display formations. Standard and premium models available.
Best for: Retail environments, office interiors, event branding and situations where a slim, wall-like fabric display panel is needed without the bulk of a full pop-up system.
Options at Dipol Print: SEG fabric free-standing displays in standard and premium models.
Stretch Fabric Stands
Stretch fabric stands use a snap-fit aluminium frame with a zip-fastened stretch fabric graphic — a premium fabric alternative to roller banners. Available in 850mm and 1000mm widths (standard) or 600mm to 1500mm (premium). Single or double-sided.
Best for: Situations where the seamless fabric finish of a SEG display is desired in a format that's closer in size and portability to a roller banner. Indoor use only.
Options at Dipol Print: Standard stretch fabric stands and Premium stretch fabric stands.
Heavy Duty Banner Frames
Heavy duty banner frames are steel tube frames with bungee tie fixing for PVC banners. Designed for outdoor use where a freestanding banner display needs to withstand wind and weather.
Best for: Outdoor events, sports venues, fetes, markets and any outdoor environment where a large PVC banner needs to be displayed freestanding without a wall or fence.
Options at Dipol Print: Heavy duty banner frames in single and double-sided configurations.
Torque Indoor Banner Stand
The Torque is a cost-effective adjustable frame system for displaying large PVC graphics indoors. Telescopic poles adjust from 1400mm to 2500mm in both width and height, accommodating graphics up to 2400×2400mm.
Best for: Large-format indoor displays where maximum graphic size is needed at a competitive price. Ideal for venues, schools, sports clubs and events where a large branded backdrop is needed without the cost of a fabric pop-up system.
Options at Dipol Print: Torque indoor banner stand.
