1. How to Choose the Right Flyer Size for Your Campaign

Flyer size is one of the first decisions you need to make when planning a print campaign — and it's more consequential than it might seem. The size you choose affects how much content you can include, how the flyer will be distributed, how it feels in the reader's hand and how much it costs to print. Get it right and your flyer works harder. Get it wrong and you're either wasting space or cramming too much into too little.

In this guide, we walk through the most common flyer sizes available at Dipol Print, what each one is best suited to and how to choose the right size for your specific campaign.

    A6 (105×148mm)

A6 is the smallest standard flyer size — roughly the size of a postcard. It's compact, lightweight and easy to distribute in very large quantities at a competitive cost per unit. The limited space means A6 flyers work best for simple, single-message communications where the design is focused and the content is minimal.

    Best for:

    • High-volume street and door-drop distribution campaigns
    • Simple event or promotion announcements with minimal copy
    • Discount vouchers and coupons
    • Takeaway menus and order inserts
    • Appointment cards and reminder slips

Design consideration: Space is tight on A6. Keep your design to a headline, a key visual and a clear call-to-action. Anything more risks looking cramped and difficult to read.

    A5 (148×210mm)

A5 is the most popular all-round flyer size — and for good reason. It's large enough to carry a strong visual and a reasonable amount of supporting copy, but compact enough to fit easily in a pocket, bag or envelope. A5 strikes the best balance between impact, information capacity and cost for most standard marketing campaigns.

    Best for:

    • General marketing and promotional flyers
    • Event promotion — gigs, markets, exhibitions, open days
    • Restaurant and café promotions
    • Service overviews and capability summaries
    • In-store and counter display

Design consideration: A5 gives enough space for a strong headline, a compelling image and three to five key points plus a call-to-action. Don't try to fill every millimetre — white space on an A5 flyer looks professional and makes the content easier to read.

    A4 (210×297mm)

A4 is the largest standard single-sheet flyer size. The extra space makes it suitable for content that genuinely needs room — detailed product or service information, multiple sections, large photography or a menu with numerous items. However, A4 flyers are harder to distribute hand-to-hand and are less likely to be pocketed by recipients. They work better as point-of-sale displays, counter leaflets or direct mail inserts than as street distribution pieces.

    Best for:

    • Detailed menus and price lists
    • Programme or schedule displays
    • Point-of-sale and counter display
    • Window and noticeboard display
    • Direct mail inserts where the recipient will read at home

Design consideration: The temptation with A4 is to fill the space. Resist it. A well-designed A4 flyer with generous white space looks significantly more premium than one packed with text and images.

    DL (99×210mm)

DL — which stands for Dimension Lengthwise — is a tall, slim format measuring 99×210mm. It's the size of a standard C4 envelope divided into thirds, and it fits perfectly into DL envelopes for direct mail. DL flyers have a distinctive, elegant appearance that stands out from square-format alternatives and works particularly well for certain content types.

    Best for:

    • Direct mail campaigns — fits standard DL envelopes precisely
    • Vouchers and promotional offers
    • Appointment reminders and booking confirmations
    • Slim menu inserts and wine lists
    • Any campaign where a distinctive, vertical format adds to the brand impression

Design consideration: The tall, narrow format naturally creates a vertical hierarchy — headline at top, content in the middle, call-to-action at the bottom. Work with the format rather than against it.

Quick Reference: Which Size for Which Campaign?

    • High-volume street distribution — A6 for cost efficiency, A5 for more impact
    • Event promotion — A5 is the standard choice
    • Restaurant or café promotion — A5 or A6 depending on content volume
    • Direct mail campaign — DL for envelope compatibility, A5 for more visual impact
    • Counter or point-of-sale display — A5 or A4 depending on available display space
    • Detailed menu or price list — A4 for maximum content space
    • Voucher or coupon — A6 or DL

    Consider a Folded Format

If your content doesn't comfortably fit on a single sheet at any of the above sizes, a folded leaflet may be the better solution. A DL tri-fold leaflet, for example, gives you six panels of content in a compact format that fits standard envelopes.
